| WoW Idol | by KidArctica @ 1 Feb 2008, 05:01 AM |
| I am following American Idol. While I haven't watched any previous seasons, when this year's episodes started coming out, I found myself checking the first one out just to see all the bad auditions. After that, I just kept going, because it is entertaining. Sometimes I wonder why the hell some people go to these auditions. Their voices are so horrid that it beats me how no one ever told them how incredibly bad they are at singing. Then again, that is probably why it is fun watching it. Sometimes it is more painful than fun to watch though. Like when someone goes to an audition to try and make a better life for themselves and for their family, and end up failing miserably. It can be annoying to watch good ones too. Especially the ones who go in and voice masturbate to the point where I am rolling my eyes and hoping that Simon, Paula and Randy will send them out, head first. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. Then there are the plain good ones. I tend to like the ones that don't go overboard, but whose performances are still rock solid just because they can sing. They don't have to show off, put on a show, anything like that, they just go in, do their thing and go out with a golden ticket. What does this have to do with WoW? Nothing really. But it kind of hit me how my pick up groups are kind of like American Idol. Sometimes I wonder just why the hell people join pugs, because they are so incredibly bad. And then they get sent out, head first. Like the hunter that joined a Karazhan group I was in, who had his pet by his side rather than in battle during the entire Attumen fight. When asked about it, he chose to send his pet into a full pack of mobs, pulling it and killing several raid members. After that, he was removed from the group. Other times, people try really hard, but just fail anyway. Like the two players who both told me that of course, they would outdps the tank, and who tried hard but still couldn't do it. The excuses? One of them said he would outdps the tank if he had better weapons. The other one claimed we killed things too fast for him to do damage. Then you have the good ones who need to show off how good they are by doing unnecessary things like crowd controlling when not asked to, or babysitting everyone else, telling them what to do in every situation. Sure, it is nice that they are aware and awake, but it is also nice not to overdo things when it is absolutely not needed. Finally, there are the ones that are just plain good. They come in, they do their jobs excellently and play rock solid throughout the entire run. When this happens, I quite often get genuinely surprised, simply because I expect pick up groups to be painful. These are the ones that make it to my very small friends list so that perhaps we can do more runs later. That is, of course, if I made it to the next step in their audition. |
