| getting into class | by Lyl @ 20 May 2008, 05:43 PM |
| There are weeks my fellow guildmates start questing my sanity and asking themselves whether I might have some sort of multiple personality... or just too much time. This week was one of those weeks. Lyl just started a new alt. People who know me also know that I already have levelled five characters up to 70 together with my boyfriend and have some others sticking at 40-56. They know that this woman is somewhat alt-crazy and addicted to Twink-o-mania (on german servers, alts are usually called twinks) And now there is this new one, a nightelf huntress called Myshree Moonshadow. Suddenly all the old questions arose again: How do you do that? I can barely play my main, don't you get confused with so many different characters? The answer is: I love diversity. I want to experience every single aspect of this game and I want to master it to the point that is reachable with my abilities. And I love levelling. Seeing how a class and a character evolves from that two-skill level 1 weakling to a mighty warrior, powerful paladin or whatever. And without being arrogant, I know that I can do this. To all those out there who have problems adapting a new class, here's my concept for delightfully growing a new character: 1) Ask yourself what you expect from your character. Do you want to play a magic artillery? A defender? Do you want flexibility? A certain race? - if those points are clear to you, choose class and race. 1.1) Ask yourself what kind of professions you'd like. This point can be delayed, but it is easier to start your professions as early as you can. Sure, you can always go to the auction house, but selfmade things simply feel better plus they're pretty good at low levels and add a lot of fun 2) play the first 10-15 levels. You get a feeling for most classes around level 10. Of course, there are exceptions: Hunters and druids. Simply because some of their key abilities are not available yet. If you play a clothie, I highly recommend getting a wand. the 10's are a tough time 3) if #2 is clear and your new class hasn't disappointed you yet, go for a specc. The big mistake done by many is going to your class' forum and looking for standard speccs at level 1. It will only distract you as you simply don't know the class. Open your talent tree and make a specc of your own. If you are done with this, you are free to compare it to other speccs and adjust it if you find this reasonable. If your specc seems to work well, keep it. It is your baby. In my opinion simply speccing after standards doesn't make you feel good. Copying is easy. If you made a specc of your own that matches a standard unintentionally you'd still know that you were capable of doing it 4) Have fun levelling. Try out you character's role in lower instances (if your random groups are better than those on my server...) I would add trying PvP here, but nowadays the lowie-BGs are full of pimped alts, so it won't be any fun. "true" lowlevel PvP can be a LOT of fun 4.1) if you are getting problems or experiencing a tough time (see clothies and 10's) ask a player with experiences in that class. Maybe that few levels simply suck for your class - then it isn't your fault. Maybe you are doing systematic mistakes. Then your "mentor" can easily give you advices. The golden rule is: only ask when something is unclear or you are getting problems. The more you get on your own, the better. optional) find a friend who's levelling together with you. The process gets so much more fun and way easier. If you get two, much better. Now you can even do small instances together if you have someone who can tank (even a hunter's pet) and someone who can heal (get some healing equip. It is enough for lower levels) I only made good experiences following those rules for levelling. Feel free to try on your own |
