Stormscale guild adult swim 8 manned Gruul The Dragon Killer a few days ago.

We brought their guild leader Snookiwooki for an interview.

 

Hi! First of all congratulations on downing Gruul with 8 men. Let's start out with who you guys are. Tell us a little about adult swim?

We are a small guild of around 35 people on Stormscale many of whom have played together since we cleared Molten Core some 2 years ago. We reformed after TBC had been out a while and we recently changed our name from <Nemesis> as it was really common to <adult swim>. We concentrate on end-game but raid around 20hrs a week so are not competing for world firsts :) I guess I would describe us as semi-hardcore as we take raiding seriously but fit it around our members real lives.

 

 

 

The setup was as follows:

1 Prot Warrior
1 Feral Druid
1 Holy Pala
1 Resto Shaman
1 BM huntard
2 Destro locks
1 Shadow Priest

Probably the BM huntard is the weak link, @17 growths or more the pet will die to cave-in as can be seen from DMG meter I drop a fair bit in damage after that. Rest is pretty solid, we avoided melee to stop the concentration of the cave-ins. We do have a dual glaive rogue we could have used but just went for all ranged in the end.

 

 

How did you guys come up with the idea, inspired by Nihilum's old 15 man video?

Well as we don't have a particularly hectic raiding schedule, we look for stupid things to do outside of raids. We did a 15 man a little while back after hearing about yours and it was pretty easy, assuming you have the gear. The less people actually makes it easier in a lot of ways due to space restrictions with 25 people flying around.

 

Gear has progressed a lot since Gruul was on the top of his game, how hard was the fight with 8 man in top notch tier sets?

The pressure is on the healers, the DPS really just need to haul ass out of the cave ins and pop cooldowns and nuke. Healing gets intense at 17 growths for 1 pala and a resto shaman. We only used the buffs available to us in the group so no people waiting outside buffing us which does strip DPS down a fair bit. Going far beyond 20 growths and the off-tank is in risk of being 1 shotted if combined with cave-in. We one shotted him at 9 man and the same with 8 man, I would expect any top geared guild could replicate this with the right setup.

 

Do you plan on beating your own record? E.g. 7 man, 6 man?

Based on current gear it would be difficult to beat, perhaps once with a lot of Sunwell gear 3 DPS could do it but we kept to ranged as melee would just concentrate all the cave-ins. We won't be trying it for a little while so it will be interesting to see if anyone else can do it 7 man.

 

So what's next for you guys?

We are slowly working our way through Sunwell, we most likely will try to get Magtheridon down with as few people as possible at some point too :P Thanks for the interest in the kill, the movie is pretty basic as it really was to just document the kill :) but hopefully shows how these things are possible!
