China, gold farmers arrested

The whole World of Warcraft is complaining about gold farmers exploiting the game but "no one" is doing anything serious against it, except for the Chinese government - Two gold farmers have been arrested.

The two guys, Li and Zhang, have been arrested for trading items and gold. They got an operation of 20 employees farming gold on 20 computers. In about seven months they made a turnover of about 1.4 Mio RMB which is equivalent to 200.000$.

Funny thing about it is that Li reported Zhang for unfair revenue distribution but both have been arrested. Some people may call this justice, others call it stupidity.

Turn up the Irony Meter to 11. After all, with all of the complaints in the US about gold farming, it takes the Chinese to stand up and do something about it.

Yep, police in China has arrested 2 men for running a World of Warcraft gold farming operation and charged them with "unfair revenue distribution" (CHINESE READER ALERT - what in the world is "unfair revenue distribution"?).

The two men ran the operation for 7 months and earned 1.4 Million RMB (just over US$200,000). They had 20 computers and 20 employees (no shifts, I guess) and were based in Chengdu's Shuangliu county. The men were targeting The9's China-based World of Warcraft operation... I'm not sure if this makes their revenue more impressive or not.

they were arrested for stealing accounts, not farming and trading in game.
they used trojan to steal game accounts and their property in game, then sold them for real money.

$200.000 may sound like a lot, but if you think about it that's a monthly salary of $1429 per farmer, excluding purchase of 20 computers, the humongous power consumption, and shelter for the farmers to do their 'job' - not to mention giving the two confederates something for their dishonest efforts. In reality there's no chance the employee can get away with anything over $1000 a month, and I doubt we're talking about a couple hours farming a week here...

Poorly paid, hardly intriguing work, probably not under acceptable working conditions, morally wrong, downright illegal and now also leading to imprisonment - why isn't everyone gunning for this position?

Gold farming and trading is not illegal in China's law,but in Blizzard's rule.
The reason why they be caught is that they spread virus and use trojan to steal Gold and Items from online-game player, then trade for money. So they have been arrested.
The "Studio" of Li and Zhang was not doing things like farming gold,STEALING gold from players is their job.
