Default The Simpsons Movie (no spoilers)

At our first day of the RL meeting, after catching up, chatting and having a couple of beers - we decided just to take a night in the cinema so we would be more ready for the next day.

So 25 nerds in the SonyCenter in Berlin for Cinemaxxs premiere night with The Simpsons Movie.

First of all there is a clear difference between the common tv show and the movie. Obviously. The budget is clearly a lot larger, and that alone reflected the overall quality of the animation into something that made everything just a tad better.

However I do not think that I am the only one who does not watch this kind of stuff for the purpose of graphics or animations, so onto the other matter - the humor. Generally speaking the movie was, as a lot of the members pointed out, just 2 or 3 episodes smashed together. There was nothing overwhelming or scenes where you would simply burst out into laughter maniacally, however the general flow of the funny scenes was good. You would not be left just following the movie for a bit too long, and even when it got dramatic there would still be a lot of room for "the funny moments".

Now I didnt expect a grand epic tale, and neither was delivered. There was a few common clichees such as the father-son-neglecting thing, and the overall morality story with wife-husband-duty - but it was luckily not over-played. Much like the first couple of seasons they played a bit on that part, but as I said, it didnt feel like it was hanging out of my throat, luckily a lot of humorous scenes made up for that part.

Making a movie like this always is sorta hard, because in movies your demands are a lot higher when it comes to the dramaturgy and the over all plot which is probably where it fails too much. A new person got too much attention compared to other really loveable characters that is the bread and butter of Springfield, sometimes a bit too much of a focus on the Simpsons - but generally speaking, it would give this a 4/6.
