Default A compliment and a question :)

Hello Nihilum! I have been searching the internet for guilds which i can approach and ask for some friendly advice. I have looked through your site and I am extremely impressed! Congratulations on all of your progress! I have a problem and I am hoping that you and a few other guilds that I am looking at might be able to give some insight.

First off, I am not located on your server. I find that my server is infested with stupid guild political issues that prevent anyone from giving sound advice to a member of a different guild. Hence my decision to look elswhere for feedback. My question for you is as follows:

I belong to a guild of very talented and dedicated raiders. We work well together and I don't believe there are any particularly weak players. Becasue half of the guild is located in America and the other half in Australia, we find that the only time to effectively raid would be friday and saturday night PST, which is saturday and sunday morning for the Australians. So, we are set up to have two marathon raids per week. We used to do split molten core and do half each day, adding onyxia to the saturday raid. Lately, however, we have picked up the speed a skill necessary to be able to clear from Lucifron to Majordomo in about 4 hours. We have yet to attempt Ragnaros since we are currently accumulating Fire resistance gear and enchants. This leaves our second day of raiding completely up in the air as to what we should do. The second day signups have been labeled as a "do whatever" sort of day, but it usually ends up being a half hearted Zul'Gurub run or a wild goose chase for world raid boss spawns. I and several other members have suggested that we start pushing into Blackwing Lair on this second day. We are not expecting to do extremely well. In fact, we are expecting to wipe repeatedly and not even get any boss action for some time. The motion, however, was overruled. The only valid reason i recall hearing was that we need to be "better geared". I personally think we are geared quite well. the core of the raiding team consistss of players with a fair amount of epics, and the only greens in sight are trivial ones, such as a paladin swapping out his standard melee weapon for an 'of the eagle' mace since he will not be meleeing in the core and needs the extra mana and health, or a warlock using an 'of shadow wrath' wand for some extra punch to his spells. I guess put simply, my question for you all is how do you know you are ready to start pushing into Blackwing Lair? keep in mind that we are not expecting to kill the first three bosses on our first attempt, and the only gear we truly lack is "Ragnaros Quality" Fire resistance gear. We have given a level of unbuffed fire resistance that must be met for our ranged DPS, Melee DPS, and Tanks. We could easily acheive these numbers with green gear, but prefer (for good reason) to meet the number with gear that wont leave us completely gimped on stats and armor. We are *close* to getting these numbers, and it is only a matter of time before we have enough dark iron armor for our tanks, black dragonscale gear for our hunters, and flarecore for our casters. I guess I just feel that the guild as a whole is being to conservative, choosing not to put forth any effort until every forseeable problem has been averted, and then some. Any insight would be extremely helpful and I thank you in advance for your time an comments.

I guess you should be able to do Razorgore in BWL, he is the first boss and also the first encounter, meaning there is no trash to clear before you get to him.

After he is down, your fun stops I'm afraid, since the second boss, Vaelastrasz, is a Ragnaros style fight, only it's heavier on fire resistance and dps. If you have yet to kill Ragnaros, I would say your chances of getting Vael close to dead are slim to none.

Saying that, most of the gear needed for vael can be picked up very easily -the majority are greens. Due to the nature of the fight stats are irrelevant, just concentrate on the fire resistance.

How do you know you are ready for bwl? When mc becomes tedious and people start falling asleep between pulls..

Thanks for your input! I'm using it and tips I have gotten from a few other guilds to make a proposal to my own guild. You have been a big help and I thank you.

No way will you be able to pass Vael without having killed Ragnaros several times over. The natural progression for guilds is to clear MC (including Ragnaros), and only after that, they are considered well enough geared to move on to BWL. Having said that - this isn't a matter of certain items from Ragnaros, nor fire resist gear.

Ragnaros is the first REAL test of damage output, if your guild isn't capable of the damage required to take Ragnaros, you probably won't have enough to take Razorgore. In addition, you mentioned you haven't even tried Ragnaros yet - that alone tells me you are in no way ready to try BWL (although I believe Razorgore has been severely nerfed since when we first started it). Skill isn't so much an issue, Rogues can only backstab so many times per minute .

If you're absolutely serious about progressing fast, then use the second raid time to farm for Lava & Fiery cores by running through an "empty" MC, and using that to gear up your players, also, GO TRY Ragnaros! He's only up for 2hours every time you've spawned him, you really need to start getting practicing.

Good luck in whatever your guild does.
