I don't think the deathknights gonna be a tank, he can't even use a shield. He is just another retribution paladin that does more damage and can dual wield. I also think the deathknight is gonna be more a solo or party class and not a raid class. his damage is okay, but we don't know how much damage he will do on lvl80 compared to other llv80 classes, and the only thing he brings to the raid atm is a bit crowdcontrol and some pulling abilities.

Edit: LOL posted after DeathArt, but my post is above his....

Edit2: After I reread some of the talents of the deathknight, I see that the deathknight IS supposed to be a tanking class if he is frost-skilled. 45% more armor in frost stance, 45% more threat and some nice magic resistance, what makes him more or less a tank for casterclasses, and together with his skill Icebound Fortitude he got something similar like shieldwall.

Frost is the tank tree. Now, if you mind. Read up about the class on say, wowwiki, and ask once you got a clue what's going on.

It would silly to repeat what the internet allready been repeating 42 times, on this forum.

Yeah, they said from the very beginning and have been saying constantly ever since that DKs were going to tank. The lack of shield is made up for by the increased armour bonus in frost stance and he doesn't have to worry about crushings because I believe in Wrath crushing blows are retiring to a little log cabin on a lake somewhere.

In a recent Blue post on the US forums, Ghostcrawler (the DK forum CM) stated that the idea is not to have a protection-esque tree, but to have 1 desireable talent in every tier 1, that every tank should get, and then 1 talent further down the tree that you could only get if that tree was your main specc. Frost != Protection, even though Frost Presence is under that tree.

Death Knights are most likely just going to be needed in one or two gimmicky fights where a boss does a lot of magic damage or something. Other than that, I fail to see the point in having more dps/tank hybrids along. With crushing out of the way, ferals most likely do that job better anyways.

I am still confused about the fact that DKs are supposed to be magic tanks when they get a lot out of parry and therefore might utilize parryhaste for aggro/dps (and then I would use them on fasthitters like dualwield-bosses). Though I'm not that into DKs so far

Anti magic shell skill to absorb magic damage.

Talents:
Magic supression (5 % less magic damage, +25 % magic damage absorbed by anti magicshell)
Anti-magic zone 'places a large anti magic zone which can protect any party members inside it. The anti magic zone absorbs 75 % of the damage dealt by the next harmful spell. Absorbs up to 10k damage. Lasts 30 seconds., 15 sec cooldown.

They've got a lot of magic reduction going that pushes them into the shoes of 'if it casts, you tank it' when shield reflect doesn't cut it. Their parry is mostly to make up for a lack of actual blocking, or the raw hp and armour that a bear druid has to make them able to still tank half decently vs melee mobs, instead of turning into a complete caster-only gimmicky thing.

This was announced in the middle of last year as soon as they announced WotLK was coming out with the Death Knight as a new Hero Class. Feral Druids don't use a shield yet they tank perfectly fine.

At the moment I am not being too presumptuous as only the ones playing the beta will have an idea of how the Death Knight is able to tank, but I would say that it won't just be a solo/party class. If that was the case then there would be no real point in releasing it.

Like Theik I think it will be viable as a tank for the more gimmicky fights with a lot of magical damage, possibly Malygos or something. However again we don't really know what boss encounters there will be or how the Death Knight will actually perform against a none magical boss. For all we know it could be the best thing since sliced bread and every guild will end up running with a Death Knight as main tank!

ok, that makes sense
though I'd like the idea of utilizing parryhaste with a damned slow bihander... but if he would get too strong in one field the bear would be worthless
