Guild movies logo design

Hey guys,
I'm new here. This aint an intro thread though . I'm wondering if anyone can give me any tips on designing a logo for guild raid movies. Basically, the guild i'm currently in (Rebirth @ Hellfire EU) has just formed, and it's players from other raiding guilds that either weren't happy with their current guild, weren't raiding enough, or were unguilded. We're currently on Kara farming (Group 1 got Curator and bosses before downed in one night, and Group 2 got Aran and bosses before downed in one night, woulda downed prince but people were tired). We're starting on Gruul's on Sunday with some members already having been there in their previous guilds. so, in order to get the appearance right, i want to design a logo and intro that can be used in our videos and possibly on our site.

I'm familiar with Photoshop CS2 and Fireworks MX2004, but i really can't figure out how Nihilums' logo/intro was designed (The one from the Illidan fight movie to be specific). I use Sony Vegas 5.0 for all editing and compilation.

I'm really interested in any design tips you can gimme, such as the stages that you went through when designing your intro, as well as how you made the "moving smoke" effect that was behind the Nihilum name, and how you did the guild name logo warping effects.

Here's the sort of editing i'm used to (it's my latest video, but it's about 2 months old and the gear i currently have is a lot better):

As you can see, it's not the greatest movie editing in the world, but it's the level i'm currently at, and i want to progress onto something more professional.

Now, please don't flame me, i did search the forums, as well as google, but found nothing. Also, i'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but it's about movies so i presumed the movie forum was the correct one.
